In past decades, Ethiopia has developed and adopted several national economic and sectoral policies and strategies. These provide frameworks and guides for economic management in a wide range of aspects.
This new report ‘the development of key national policies with respect to rainwater management in Ethiopia’ reviews five major policy implementation challenges: First, that policies are often made without adequate assessment and drawing lessons from existing policies and strategies; second, absence of policy implementation guidelines, laws and regulations; third, a general lack of policy implementation capacity at all levels; fourth, a general lack of a proper policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation system that could feed into policy refinement and adjustment; and fifth, the challenge of policy coordination and integration (across sectors).
